The perfect choice for vibraphone in percussion ensembles and orchestral performance
The SV-40 is labeled clear cut, which is our preferred term for what other brands would call hard-very hard. Yes, it’s a stick for special occasions, when you need to hear a truly metallic bar, to cut through the percussion ensemble, those drums and marimbas around you… But, despite its harsh, strong projection, this stick will have a more fundamental tone than most you’ve played before, due to the shape and size of the head. The focus of thought and sound for this stick comes from a marimba background, and this is one of the reasons why it has a clearer, better fundamental tone than any other hard stick I’ve used before. This stick is also perfect for ragtime and a full-bodied sound on any 4-octave xylophone. Especially low measures with quintuple tuning will sound wonderful.
Combinations:
Use it alone, as a set of four SV-40s, or combine it with an SV-30 in your left hand. This will give you more smoothness in the lower register of the vibraphone, while the overall sound remains crisp and projective.
