GP3 drumheads are thick, single-ply drumheads with a saturated sound and few overtones. They have a voluminous, powerful, almost matte sound, as the drumhead doesn’t vibrate as strongly as thinner drumheads. A special feature is the larger gap between the drumhead’s aluminum hoop and the drumhead surface, which is larger than other brands. This means the drumhead settles more quickly into the instrument’s shell and sits lower from day one. Give it time:
A drumhead’s development begins the moment it’s first applied. Each time it’s tuned, the drumhead settles more into the drum rim that forms the base of the drumhead. You’ll soon notice a change in the sound. New drumheads sometimes whine when first applied. Each time they’re tuned, they settle a little more, and even after playing for a while, the sound will improve. A new drumhead also makes the tension ring higher. Each time you tune the new head, it will sit a little higher on the drum body, give, and the rim can be lowered gradually. In short: New head – raised rim, weepy sound. Head used for a couple of rehearsals – lower rim, better sound.
